How To Find ZIP/Postal Codes Of State / City In Nigeria

You should have had the cause to look for the zip codes of your state, city or street at one point in your life. If you have never been in this situation, you probably do not fill online forms much or you simply put whatever numbers in the text box. Some will just look for the phone code (23439 for Ogun State and 23401 for Lagos), and enter it wherever the form asks for Zip/Postal code.

Search Nigerian Postal Codes

Some do this out of ignorance because they really do not know what a zip code or a postal code is. Many people cannot differentiate between a Zip or Postal Code and Phone Code. Let me explain briefly.

What is a Zip or Postal Code?

Simply put, a postal code (known in various countries as a post code, postcode, or ZIP code in United States) is a series of letters and/or digits appended to a postal address for the purpose of sorting mail. It helps post offices to sort mails/parcels by state, cities and streets in order to make delivery easier and faster.

So, How Can I Get Postal Code For My City / Area In Nigeria?

Nigerian Postal Service has a web portal where you can go to and find all urban and rural zip or postal code as you may call it. This portal is very simple to use. Just like the screenshot above, all you have to do is:

1. Go to the Nigerian Post codes portal at www.nigeriapostcodes.com/
2. Choose if you want to search by Urban Location, Rural Location or Postal Facility (I am using the urban option)
3. Now choose your state from the drop-down
4. Choose your Town, then Area and lastly, Street
5. To get the code, click on the GET POSTCODE button

This will bring the postal code to you to copy. This is the code for your area or street, depending on what is written there.

For quick references, we have a list of Postcodes by states listed below for you.

This will be useful when you when you only need the code for states and don’t want to go searching for it. Mostly, you won’t need it for states but your street.
