How To Know If Your SIM Card Has Been Registered

May 30, 2017 By mcmedal001 2 Comments

Sometimes one might need to check if his SIM card is registered or not. This is especially true if you register them with the road-side MTN, GLO, Etisalat and Airtel SIM card sellers. I have been in a situation whereby, a guy that sells SIM cards and Phone Accessories sold a GLO SIM to me, claimed to register it (he took all my data, fingerprints and picture) but I couldn’t use the SIM after days.

I took back to him and the guy told me he has registered it. I thought Glo should have sent a message telling me my SIM card has been registered, but for reasons I didn’t know, they never sent one. I called the customer care number and they told me it has been registered.

Checking the Registration Status of the SIM Card (Glo)

The customer care representative I spoke to also told me the code to use when I need to check if my SIM card has been truly registered, or otherwise. I was a little bit embarrassed, so I vowed I would never allow it to happen again. I called MTN, Etisalat and Airtel that day to ask them how one would know if his SIM card has been registered.

I decided to share the information I gathered with everyone right here. This happened sometimes back (about 8 months) and I composed this post then. I just added some more information to update it.

How to check if your MTN is Registered

Send REG as a message to 789. After sending the text to 789 with your MTN SIM card, you will get a reply confirming that you have been registered if it was actually registered, otherwise, you get a “not registered” message.

If your sim have been registered, you will get a service message saying:

2348031231565 has been registered. Thank you!

2348031231565 is your phone number!

How to check if your Airtel SIM card has been Registered

The only way to check if your Airtel SIM card has been registered as at the time of writing this post is by calling 111 on your phone or by sending an email to customercare@ng.airtel.com

How to check if your Etisalat SIM has been Registered

For Etisalat, you can verify your SIM card registration status by calling 200 or sending an email to care@etisalat.com.ng

How to Check if your Glo SIM is Registered

Send REG to 3456 as a message. If your line has been registered, you’ll receive a message that looks like the one below:

Your SIMCARD +2348071111111 has been registered. Thank You!

These are the things you need to do to check if your SIM has been registered for all networks in Nigeria.
